Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone had an amazing weekend. I have another little project for you this week since my big projects seem to be taking me a little longer than I expected. Time seems to be flying by this summer and I am falling behind on some of the things that I have started. But that’s okay because it is due to the fact of spending time with my amazing family. 🙂
Anyway, last week at my work we had a silent auction. You could bring in anything you didn’t want and it would be auctioned off to the highest bidder. It is true how one person’s trash is an other’s treasure. I bid on a few things and ended up spending a whopping $3.50 for three trays, a wire basket, two tall wooden candle holders and a smaller pillar candle holder. I also tried for a vase but couldn’t compete with the $1.00 bid on it. LOL! Oh well, I’ll be kept busy with these few things.
Anyway, of course I purchased all these items with ideas in mind on how to transform them. So the first one that received its makeover was this tray.
Not really my style but I knew that I would be able to make it more my own with a little paint and sandpaper. Hey and if not, I only paid 50 cents for this tray and two others. So for approx. 17 cents each what did I have to lose, right?
I guess 17 cents…
First I cleaned it up and then gave it a coat of mat black spray paint.
Better, but still not quite there.
Once that was all dry I broke out some leftover linen white chalk paint and gave it a few coats. I used this paint because I knew that I would be distressing some of the underlying detail so it would stand out. Once dry, I used 120 grit sandpaper to bring out some of the pretty detail.
And boom! Done! Just like that. It took me half a day to make this pretty white tray for my dresser … and it only took that long because I had to wait for paint to dry. Gah!! (That is always the worst part.)
So to recap … for a steep 17 cents, (because I already had the paint on hand), I have a new jewelry tray for my dresser. 17 cents!! Really! What can you buy for 17 cents any more?! Definitely not a jewelry tray. Nope not even a chocolate bar. Oooh chocolate… okay I’m going to let you enjoy the sight of my pretty tray while I go eat a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup.
If you think I did a good job transforming this tray and would like to share please pin the image below for all to see.
