Turn a book box into a fun little storage chest.
This was one of those spur of the moment projects. I had thought about redoing some of the book boxes I had lying around that I wasn’t very fond of but they weren’t high on my priority list.
This weekend I won this Grapix 45 book box in a draw at a scrapbooking event, and as luck would have it, it turned out to be the perfect prize for me.
It also worked as the perfect storage place for my extra little letter blocks that had no home.
By the way…
…these are the cute blocks I was working on. They were inspired by Katie @ Little House of Four. Check them out here. She does amazing things with dollar store items. You would never believe that they came from the dollar store by the time she is done. Please take a look at her blog when you are done – trust me you won’t be disappointed.
Anyway… back to the cute little book box-turned-storage chest.
You can use any sort of book box you have already at home or pick one up at the dollar store. Plain or patterned, doesn’t matter. I was super excited to decorate it – so much so, that it was what I did the next day.
Here are some progress photos.
As luck would have it I had all the supplies I needed on hand, thanks to my scrapbooking addiction. It only took me a few hours to put it together. The longest part of the whole thing was waiting for the paint to dry. I’m impatient so that was a real struggle. I’m sure a lot of you know what I am talking about.
There is a basic list of the things that I used to put this together at the end of this post. Again it was all stuff I had on hand.
The finished book box turned storage chest.
I’m very happy with the way it turned out! What a lucky prize! I’m glad I could put it to use and so fast! This and my blocks will be so cute together wherever I decide to put them. They may travel the house over time.
- Graphix 45 book box – Also on Amazon here
- Modge Podge – I use the coupon at Michael’s and get it there
- Foam brush – get these at the dollar store
- Assorted embellishments – From various sources: Dollar Store, Michael’s,
- Paper – Michael’s
- Metal embellishments – Stampin’ Up -not sure they have these any more – I also painted mine to match. They were a cream colour to start.
- Paint – I just used acrylic paint on the box for the dark colour.
- Tiny wood spools for the legs.
What would you do to a book box to change it up?
