Wow! So I am sitting here writing this and realizing that a week today we will be waking up to Christmas morning. Can you believe it!
We are finally getting snow here so it is feeling a little more Christmasy. Yay for snow! I have way over indulged in treats and have done nothing extra to make it all go away. But I think the recipes I used said that they have absolutely no sugar or calories if consumed before Christmas. Hope you are all using the same type of recipes. 😛
I have my list ready of 5 things to do before Christmas and hopefully it all runs smoothly. Along with it I have included links to various posts to help you out if you need to catch up as well.
First up – the thing that should have been done long ago…
I have a tiny bit left to do. Most of it is done but I did get slightly side-tracked and behind so a few more things need to be put out. I am never this far behind. 😐 If you need a cute idea for decorating that can actually be used throughout the fall and winter check out my post on my DIY Cozy Finger Knit Wreath. It is so easy and has been quite a popular post. You can whip this up over the holidays and have it up for the rest of winter. I am excited to see if anyone has tried it. If you do be sure to drop me a photo in the comments below. I’d love to see it!
My dinner planning will be happening this week but since I already know what I will be doing for my table setting that is one thing off my list. If you missed that post be sure to check it out.
It is a great way to put a little elegance to your table but really doesn’t cost a lot and is quite versatile.
Our dinner doesn’t require a ton of planning. We are doing it at our place and there will only be about 6-7 of us so nothing too big. Not like some years with 15-25 people. Lots of kids and lots of fun. Crazy… but fun. Times change and kids grow and people move away so now we are a small and cozy group. Still fun, just different.
I do the usual turkey, stuffing and potatoes with all the fixings. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without turkey. I don’t actually stuff the bird anymore. It is such a huge time saver if you just cook the stuffing separately. I know that this may be taboo for a lot of people but one thing I am not is a cook. I can… I just prefer not to. So if I can get up a little later, enjoy watching my girls open presents and relax a little more on what is such an excitement filled day then I am all for it.
Once the dinner is all figured out then I will be able to get to my…
I haven’t even begun my wrapping… yikes! But when I do I am ready for it. I wrote a post on having a gift wrapping essentials kit at the ready and also included some super cute printable gift tags so be sure to check that out to get yours. If you are already done your wrapping (don’t tell me) but pin the image so you have it available for next year.
I think I will crank up the Christmas music this week one evening, make some hot chocolate and get wrapping. Sometimes I find it easier if I sit down and do it all at once. I just hope I don’t realize that I will still need to run out after. 😐 I DO NOT want to be running to a mall this close to Christmas!
I’m afraid to ask… but do you have all your wrapping done? Are you that person that is right on the ball and gets their shopping and wrapping done by beginning to mid December? If you are send me your tips. I could really use them! Maybe I should make it a challenge next year, get a bunch of us to see if we can challenge and push each other to get this all done so much sooner. Seriously give me tips!! 🙂
After all the chaos of wrapping I know we will be…
4) Relaxing With Hot Chocolate
This weekend we will be doing our hot chocolate bar. If you have never done this you have to check it out. It is so much fun for everyone. The kids love to be able to make their own fancy hot chocolate. (okay lets be honest here… EVERYONE loves to make their own fancy hot chocolate. ) You can have so much fun with it and I have even created a printable sign, tent cars and a homemade hot chocolate recipe card with additional add ins for you.
Be sure to throw this together if you are doing Christmas dinner at your house this year. Your guests will LOVE it!
5) Plan Activities For the Break
Since our kids will be off over the holidays we like to come up with fun activities we can all do together. One of our favourite things to do is tubing. It is pretty much adrenaline filled tobogganing. We go out to the mountains and spend the day tubing then dinner in Banff. This year I think we are going to try snowshoeing.
I have a list of things that we love to do or would like to try and we usually pick some from that. You can check that list out here. All are fun to do at any age!
Well that pretty much sums up my next few days. I hope you are a lot closer to being done than I am. If not, know that you are not alone. I am right there with you. 🙂
Remember that this time of year is crazy busy but also needs to be fun and relaxing. Sit down, relax with some hot cocoa and think of your loved ones near and far and know that you are in their thoughts always!
May this next year bring you peace and joy and all things filled with love.
Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas and A Happy and Healthy New Year!
