SPRING HAS SPRUNG – IT’S TIME FOR SOME COLOUR!
If you are anything like my husband Neal, spring makes you VERY happy!
As soon as the end of December hits he is ready for warm weather, and he’ll continually remind you that it is coming SOON. He usually jinx it and we get a foot of snow. Makes our daughter Sydney so mad.
However… we live in Alberta so… spring is lucky to arrive somewhere around the beginning of April – sometimes later. Some years, we’ve had snow every single month – yes, even in the summer. We are lucky that way… NOT!!
But anyway, here in Alberta spring is not necessarily a pretty time of year. Not for a bit anyways. Over the winter the snow, dirt, salt and rocks wreak havoc on our city and all the beautiful brown snow starts to melt away to reveal…
wait for it…
the anticipation is building…
YES MORE BROWN and grey and tan and any other dull dreary colour you can think of. Yikes!
So it is time for a little colour inside!
Around this time of year I like to try to spruce things up with a bit more colour using some flowers and because Easter is close who doesn’t like some decorated eggs around the house. I am usually a dark colour kind of girl: deep burgandy’s, blues, greys. But I am trying to transition… not away… but mix in some lighter, brighter tones here and there.
So this year I decided to bring in some light pinks and blues. The blues you will notice later in a large project I am working on…
I purchased the pretty pink and white flowers above from Michael’s. The light branches were a dollar store find around Christmas (you could find similar branches at Michael’s for way more money). These set me back a whole $8.00 for two branches.
I have been trying to update my Easter decorations since my girls are growing up. Some things need to go: the small bunnies that are now missing ears, the inflatable bunnies that lose their air after only a short time, the little chicken with no eyes. Now I can update my decor and bring it up to date. Even my decor is growing up. Geesh!!!
I made the spring sign out of some of my scrapbooking supplies I had lying around. The eggs were those handy little plastic eggs that are everywhere now that you can colour in so many ways. I purchased mine at the dollar store and painted and speckled them for a natural effect. The cute little nest was a sale item at Pier 1 Imports.
I did another picture that for some reason I love even though it is the most simple idea ever.
I picked up these cute little carrots on one of my trips to the dollar store and had no clue what I was going to do with them. But hey, they were calling my name, and who am I to say no to something so cute! So when I finished the other picture I got the idea to just put some brown paper in another frame and stand them up like they were growing. I think it is cute!! Not a great picture but the idea is there.
So I think I have successfully added a touch of spring to a few spots in my house and am already starting to feel the warmth of the weather coming in.
